January 8th, 2000 the "guys" went to the Monster Truck Show in the Astrodome.  It was very loud and we wore our earplugs. 

This is the first picture as we sat down after the National Anthem.

The sand dragsters line up for the first run of the night.  Notice there is a monster car in the middle.  These things dwarf the people standing next to them.

Those sand dragsters are super loud and kick up a lot of sand.  The race is over in 2 seconds!

The first monster truck race is about to start.  We had pretty good seats, about 7th row.

Second monster truck race about to start.  The other truck is at the opposite end heading the other way.  The trucks must do a complete lap through the poles.  The first one to jump the starting ramp again wins.

This is my favorite truck of the night.  "Monster Patrol" with black and green and police lights on top.  This is one nice looking truck. 

Second round sand dragsters.  That's a lot of sand in the air.  Most of the sand dragsters had a hard time stopping before they hit the wall.  One dragster was forced to steer away and almost flipped trying to avoid the wall. 0 to 100 in about 150 feet!

Although not a very clear picture, the entire Astrodome with over 50,000 people got a really good wave going that looped the dome twice.  This is a picture as it approached us.

More sand dragsters line up.  Notice the wave on the other side as it passes through the middle of the picture.  This was on the second loop around the dome.

Awesome power with these sand dragsters.  The picture was taken as the sound hit me.  By then the race is half over.  Real quick!!!

This was Shawn's favorite sand dragster.  It's a Dodge truck with the front end extended way out front. Funny looking huh?

The winner of the second Midget Sprint car race.  Shawn won the bet!  He got cotton candy as his prize.

This is Monster Patrol as it wins the race.  Right after this picture Monster Patrol tried some donuts and flipped it over. 

Now we start Monster truck Free Style.  Anything goes.  The object is to win the audience by applause.  AKA: Show Off - Popularity Contest.

The brought out two old boats.  This was the first truck to squash a boat.

The crowd loved it so he crushed the other boat.  Tried to jump it but it just squashed.  A few pieces of the boat flew up against the wall from the force of the tires.

Second round of free style.  This truck jumps the cars without a ramp.

More boat squashing and showing off.  Notice the red poles from the monster truck races are history.  Sore looser!

This is a nice truck too.  Patriotic colors and a real show off.  Bigger and better in Texas.

Good photography.  The aftermath of the truck flipping over.  The truck won the popularity contest anyway.  Guess it pays to go too far sometimes.

This truck was doing some truly awesome donuts.  The truck was spinning like a top real fast.  I was amazed at how fast is was spinning.  The other truck "Monster Patrol" got jealous and tried it and flipped over.

The grand finale.  A lunatic strapped himself into a black car, drove into the Dome at 70 MPH and hit a ramp that flipped him over and over then exploded into flames just before landing on a bed of cars.  His car was engulfed in flames and fell off this side of the cars as it hit a flipped head over tail onto the ground landing upside down in flames.  It was tense as the inside of the car was on fire.  The ground crews put out the fire and the driver climbed out with a few broken bones and maybe a bit more common sense.

After arriving home just after midnight Shawn falls asleep watching cartoons.

Avery does the same and so do I.
